Monday 28 December 2015

This quilt top was made as a round robin project.  I made the centre block and the it was passed around a group of 4 others from my guild.  I made it into a quilt when I needed a gift for a friend going through chemo therapy for breast cancer.
Well Christmas is over.  I was under the weather for a couple of days but I think that I am on the mend.  I think maybe the egg whites was off that I had for lunch on Dec. 26.  Starting to feel a bit better now.  Hope to get down to my sewing room day for some sewing.
   Happy quilting,
       Carol

Friday 25 December 2015

Five of the folded star large pot holders that I made before Christmas this year.  Some are gone to other owners but some are still in my kitchen.  I gave Dave the second one down, he liked that one and I kept the last one for myself.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  Kids were home and had 2 great meals together.
Happy quilting to all and to all a good night.

Tuesday 22 December 2015

These little stockings were made by guild members and filled with toiletries for our local women's shelter in Strathmore.  They were so easy to make.

This is the block that I made with the provided fabric for my guild's next charity raffle quilt.  I have the finished quilt top further down in the blog.  You can see the corner of the quilt top in the above picture and actually my block is visible as well.
We are in the deep cold at the moment but at least the fog of last week is done.  Where is the time going, only 3 days till Christmas.  Hope everyone reading this has a really good day with family where possible.

Guild raffle quilt, Puffin quilt

This is a wonderful quilt art piece by Gwen R. from my guild. The little picture she worked from is at the top left hand corner.
We had a great family dinner on Sat.  It was potluck and turned out really great. Santa visited the kids as well.

This is our new raffle quilt. Ann S is holding it in the picture.  She sewed all the blocks together into a top.  It is now ready for quilting.  The block that I made is the butterfly, top row second in from the right.  Tickets will go on sale sometime in the new year(2016).

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas season with family and friends.

folded star(purple) and xplus block

The two x plus blocks were made for Block Lotto.com Nov's block 2015.  I did not win.
The middle block is a folded Star for a pot holder. That one is still not done and I will likely keep it
for me.
Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy Quilty New Year

A few more guild show and tell quilts. These are from more than a year ago but I haven't shared them anywhere yet.  Happy quilting, :)Carol

Monday 19 October 2015

Two items from show and tell at Dalemead Quilting guild.  Trying to share some photos with everyone.
Still trying to re-organize my sewing space.  Seems I am getting more stuff and not getting rid of enough.  I am getting more involved with Days for Girls.  A get cause to get involved in.  I have been making shields. Ties for the drawstring bags and trying to get the serging right on the corners of the liners.  Having fun doing it.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

easy cathedral window

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100
Faux cathedral window
This partly done cathedral window belongs to Sharon L.  I was recently on a quilt retreat with her and others from my guild. I just loved this little piece.  It is now on my to do list.  She made this after watching a youtube video of Jenny Doan at Missouri Quilts.   I watched the same video and thought that I would like to make it but she is much faster at giving things a try.

Monday 21 September 2015

Potholders I made for Chris and Sara for Christmas last year.  So cute.  I should make some more.
Just got back from a wonderful retreat.  It was at Rustlers Lodge in Sundre, Alberta.  Great place and wonderful food.  Got a lot of stuff done.  I will upload some photo's soon.
Happy quilting,

Carol

Vacation Time by Pat Sloan.

Block 6 and 7 for Pat Sloan's Vacation time.
I haven't gotten any further with this project.  Need to get back to it.
Working on this one for charity.
Went to Spruce Meadows today to watch some horse jump.  Had a nice time. Legs a little
sore.
Had a sewing lesson this morning before we went.  Learned how to cut and sew the liners for Days for Girls. I am excited to get started on them.

Monday 31 August 2015

This are small cards that I made with doodles and tangles and I hope to use them on cards for gifts.
Yet another craft I enjoy to fill my time.
Try out a local gym today to see if we want to commit to getting into better shape.  Also did a bit of
purging in my sewing room after we got home.  It's a very slow job.  Took time to cut out some circles in denim for a cathedral window quilt.  It is a little hard on the hands so I have a lot of circles drawn on the denim and cut a few at a time.  At present i am cutting 6 inch and 4 inch circles.  Each fit at different points on the pant legs.
While I guess that is my news for today.
Happy quilting and crafting to all in the blog world.

Hip to be square rag quilt and DFG sewing day in my home

These are the front and back of a challenge piece I made that was on Pat Sloan's site.  The challenge was called Hip to be square.  I decided to  make a rag quilt with the blocks. I had 2 rows together before I noticed that the rag part was on what was to be my back.  So I left it that way.  The back is fleece material I picked up at a thrift store. This is as far as I got it for the challenge.  Need to make it a little bit bigger and then it could be a baby quilt
Had a good day today sewing.  I have been volunteering my time to a charity called Days for girls.
They made sanitary pads/shields  for women in countries that have to stay home for work or school when they have there period because they don't have any product to use so they can leave the house.
This was a small turn out today but we managed to make 40 ties for the kit bags and got labels sewn onto 44 of the kit bags.  Since there were only 2 of us I think we did ok.  After Elaine left I took everything back to my sewing room and sergered  both sides of another 14 bags.
  Happy quilting everyone.

Pat Sloan's mystery quilt….Vacation 2015

Well here it is Aug. 26 already.  Above photo are the first 5 blocks of the Pat Sloan mystery
called "Vacation"  I have 2 more done but they are photographed separately.  This will be a charity quilt for my guild when I get them all done and together.

Here are 6 and 7.
I am holding my second sewing day for Days for Girls, in my  home tomorrow.
First on was great with 6 ladies sewing and ironing and working on kit items from 10 to 3pm.
I haven't had as much time over the summer as I had hoped to work on items but my time is a little
more my own in the next few weeks so I will see how much of my supplies I can get sewn. It always
goes faster with help.   So Happy quilting to all for now. Hopefully I am back soon with another entry.

Cdnquiltswappers mystery quilt 2014

This is a mystery quilt top from CanadianQuiltswappers an online group I belonged to for a long time. Got this far in 2014. Haven't decided what I will do now.  If I will make it bigger or quilt it as a tablecloth?

I had to start a new blog as the old one will not let me post anymore.  I will try to be more regular with my quilt posting.  Hard to believe that the summer is almost over already.
Happy quilting everyone.
